Thoughts on a meet.

Have you ever agreed to meet up with a person for all the wrong reasons?

I'm embarrassed to admit, this girl has!

Yet another one of those... Not my best decision moments.

I have a plethora of them....

Just another item on the list of reasons why I need to stick to my own rules!

They became my rules for a reason, after all....

I'm not quite sure why I'm thinking about this, this evening, yet, here I am.

Thinking about it.

It was several months ago and I had initially expressed to this man that I was not interested.

He seemed like a nice enough guy, but, I just wasn't feeling a connection.

Then we started talking.

I had learned that his father had just passed, and he was feeling sadness and depression. The more we talked, the more I started to feel sorrowful for him, and I let down my guard.

I planned a meet.

I'm here to say, folks, your original reasons for deciding against something will always be present, whether you are clouded with empathy and emotion, or not.

We had planned to meet for a dinner and a bonfire.... Fun stuff implied.

From the start it was a lil bit strained and awkward.

Tortured small talk.

Long silences.

I remembered instantly why I had initially chosen not to meet this guy the moment I saw this guy.

He didn't come to greet me at my car upon arrival, or even walk toward me... I had to yell out to him as he was walking in the opposite direction to confirm his identity.

His messages had been the word version of what had just happened to me in person.

Fantastic!

This was going to be long and painful.

Any empathy or sorrow I had been feeling over his loss, gone!

Over the meal we had talked about our experiences on the site and what things we were seeking to find.

I had mentioned a few times that I was looking for someone who I could trust that was looking for something similar to me...

Not looking to change my life - Looking for possible repeat encounters - Looking to find a partner who is also selective and not going to give me a disease.

He had been shady around the last topic - so I dug in a little deeper.

I had asked him if I could trust that he was selective, and I wouldn't catch The Clap from him.

His answer??

"I can't guarantee that. I mean, you know...."

And, that was all she wrote folks. I knew at that very moment, this mans parts would never be touching my parts.

We were at his home and he had chosen this moment to ask if I had wanted to "go inside".

"Nah, I'm good!"

I had tried to be kind of up beat, and nonchalant, but I was inwardly feeling like I just wanted to flee.

We chatted a little more about expectations, and he had revealed he wasn't certain what he was expecting, but he had something totally different in mind then what was happening.

I had simply stated that I use a first meet to get to know a potential partner and I decide at that point if I want to go further with them.

It was obvious that I did not want to go further with him.

"I think you're on the wrong site, then."

"Um, nope. I think I'm on the right site."

In an obvious attempt to get rid of me, he was now beginning to feign giant yawns and express his tiredness.

I laughed, and made a sarcastic comment, but used that queue to make my exit.

I headed back to my car with this guy hot on my heels.

Suddenly he was leaning in for a hug, commenting on how clean my car was, and telling me it was good to meet me.

I smiled, thanked him for dinner, hopped in my car, and left...

Chastising myself the entire ride home.

Lessons learned!

Like usual, learned the hard way...
