Remember the days when I was lamenting the antics of a teenage Spawn??
The side-eyed glances...
The shower snacks...
The fake eyelashes stuck to everything in the house...
Each and every day was a cornucopia of lectures on things like snail mucin, the UV index, and eyebrow pencils.
Who would have thought, there would come a day, when I would miss that snarky little teenager?!?
As usual, I awoke in the middle of the night, tonight.
I lay there in my bed, eyes shut, wondering if I kept them closed, would I fall back to sleep?
"Ouch"
My eyes popped open as I heard a voice coming from my utility room, the door to the outside closing behind it.
Butters, who had been sleeping at my feet, sprung into action and hopped off the bed.
Frozen in time, my mind began reeling with questions...
Do I recognize this voice??

Holy shit... What do I do??
Hearing footsteps slowly make their way into the kitchen, I hopped out of my bed, grabbed a weapon, and sprung into action!
Yah, I wish....
Hearing footsteps slowly make their way into the kitchen, I actually hopped out of bed, sprinted across the short span from my room to the Spawn's room, and threw the door shut, pressing my body against the door.
Hmmm... Well, I guess you could say I sprung into action, couldn't you.

Breathing like I'd just run a marathon, heart beating out of my chest, I flipped on the bedroom light to discover an empty bed, and no Spawn in sight.
"Oh my God mom, what are you doing??"
I could now hear her voice on the other side of her bedroom door.
"What are YOU doing?? You scared the SHIT out of me!"
"I went over to [Goth Girl's] house to hang out. I'm not allowed to hang out with friends??"
Opening the door, I see an incredulous, eyebrow raised, adult Spawn tapping her foot on the floor.
"What, were you like.... Going to protect me?? Or something??"
"When I went to bed last night you were SLEEPING in your bed. SLEEPING! How am I supposed to know that the possible intruder I hear, creeping through my home at 3:30 in the morning is going to be my daughter?!?"
"Oh my God, mom, you're SO dramatic."
Am I though??
Am I really being dramatic?
"I'd might as well get up now. I'm certainly not going to be falling asleep after that rush of adrenaline."
Whatever, mom, I'm going to bed. Good night... Love you."
"Love you too."
I have to say, it has been a tough adjustment getting used to adult Spawn.
Allowing her to just, come and go... And, not ask her constantly where she's going, who she will be with, what they will be doing.
I know I raised her well, and always tried to be a good example for her. Now I just need to trust her.
Trust her to make those wise decisions.
At least one thing still remains the same, though....
I'm still finding fake eyelashes all over the place.

Adults consider reasonable hours of the day
I can relate to the adjustments you've had to make. Mine have been gone for a bunch of years now. The bunk bed in their room now acts like a storage facility... or a 'just-in-case' sleepover space.😶
I think I'm at the point now, I'll be ok with her eventually moving out. LOL She has been a terror since she got back from college. That little bit of freedom has turned her into a real big meanie.
It's getting closer. Teen Spawn to Adult Spawn and in a few more years .... All Grown-Up Spawn! Spawns are great, once they're all grown-up.
I had thought the teen years were bad... Young Adult Spawn is a bitch. One minute she's telling me about her ex boyfriend running into her at the gas station and the next she's mad at me because I asked her what she did when she saw him. Holy crap! I'm afraid to be around her, half the time. LOL
Well, at least you didn't grab a bat and go in swinging, right? Hopefully you will get a well deserved nap today.
Very true! That would have been bad!! LOL I definitely see a nap in my future.... I can't do much outside right now, anyway, with all that wildfire smoke out there. It's been really bad. I've never seen anything like this before.

The funny thing is, I think she might be leaving again for a semester of college this fall, and I'm probably going to miss this stuff too. LOL

I've never owned a gun, they just aren't my thing, but I do have pepper spray. LOL In my purse.... In my car.... LOL
