Perhaps you are overthinking this one. In an era when STDs are a reality, this could be a man who wants to engage in sexual activity, but remain emotionally unavailable. If the woman or man has many FWBs, her/his chance of remaining STD-free declines.

For what it's worth, I agree with you.

Ok..let me throw my two cents in here. Over the last 13 years, I've had no desire to be in a LTR. No marriage. Have had fuck buddies, NSA's and FWB's. Not all the FWB's were exclusive. However, it is very possible to have a FWB, and have that relationship be exclusive. I've done it more than once. A lot of it has to do with your definition of Friend s. I think what most people refer to as FWB on here, is really describing what I consider a NSA. One example. I found a lady on here. We went out, how fun together, and ended up having sex. Over a period of a month, we started seeing each other regularly. We realized we were a good match, but for different reasons, neither wanted to get married. But she expressed that she would rather not see other men, and the thought of me with other women bothered her. To be honest, I am more of a one woman guy anyway. So we agreed to be exclusive. The relationship was fun, it was fulfilling and we truly were friends. And we truly had some benefits. It lasted till she moved away for a job. It ended nicely, with some sadness and tears, but still as friends. Commitment doesn't always mean you're exclusive, as evidenced by all the married people, messing around behind their spouses backs on here. To be honest if in the end they both agree to an exclusive FWB arrangement, then fair enough, but then that is a real full time relationship so yes it does sound a bit conflabulated.
