Who really rules the world? Understanding capitalism and the capitalist elite
Who really rules the world? Understanding capitalism and the capitalist elite Abby Martin sits down with Peter Phillips, former director of Project Censored and professor of Political Sociology at Sonoma State University. His new book “Giants: The Global Power Elite” details the 17 transnational investment firms which control over $50 trillion in wealth—and how they are kept in power by their activists, facilitators and protectors. 80% of the people living in this world live on less than $10 a day. 20% are considered middle-class. 1% are the transnational capitalist class. And of that 80% half of them live on $2.50 a day. And the bottom third; over 1 billion people live on $1.25 a day. This is the gross inequality of the world that we live in today. 700 to 800 million people are nutritionally malnourished. With 30,000 of them dying every day from starvation or malnutrition; when there is more than enough food to feed everyone in the world. A third of the food in the world is wasted. Because it is not profitable for capitalism to sell or to give to people who need it. So they don't do it. They are considered surplus people and they are allowed to die. It's sad but true that most people live paycheck to paycheck as the wealthiest only get richer and the middle class and low income get poorer. This country really needs to make some changes, or we are going to see a lot more homeless people out on the streets. And the Seniors barely can survive on fixed incomes as they have to go to food pantries and get brown bags just to be able to eat, because most of their money goes towards medicine and medical stuff, as medicare doesn't cover all their expenses..

It doesn't matter if your a greedy, selfish, coldhearted sociopath. The only way to become wealthy in a captialist society is to provide someone a good or service that they value. Think of the last time you bought snacks. You valued the snacks more that you valued the money you paid for them. And the snack company valued the money more than the snacks. So you bought walk away from the transaction with something of greater value than what you gave up. Win-Win. To become wealthy you have to add value to millions of people's lives. And you can't do it alone so have to involve millions of other people who aren't your customers. Like your distributors and their employees and the company's they hire including the people who clean the toilets and make sure the trash is taken out. Now repeat that process for the farmes, drivers, package designers, store owners and the hundreds of thousands of smaller companies that support them. Then you can see a small part of the wealth being generated by these cold hearted captialist who only care about making money. They're not hording money they're creating so much wealth, adding so much value to people's lives and creating so many opportunities for others that they can't spend all the money they agreed to be compensated for doing so. It's called the invisible hand in economic terms. These micro transaction that lead to prosperity. Your the one who's disillusioned and want people to die. Just look at all the countries that adopted captialism. Like China and India. They are pulling people out of extreme poverty at a incredible rate. Now look at countries that abandoned it. It's not pretty in Venezuela right now.

Captialism is the only reason people aren't starving in the streets right now. I don't think people realize that what we see as extreme poverty is the natural state of human beings and it takes a massive amount of effort to keep our economies from reverting to our natural state. Captialism is the only system humans have ever devised that creates wealth but people shit on it because it doesn't distribute it evenly.
